An assessment of the national agricultural advisory services (NAADS): a reference to local chicken production in poverty reeducations in Tororo District
Abstract
The research was about an Assessment of the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADs): A Reference to Local chicken Production in Poverty Reeducations in Tororo District. The specific objectives were to determine the impact of NAADs on local chicken production and find out the effectiveness of Veterinary extension workers/service providers.
A descriptive survey research design was applied to portray the status quo in relationship to local chicken production under NAADs program in Tororo District. Cluster random sampling was used to select the sub counties. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the respondents in the study. The respondents included local chicken farmers and extension worker/service providers.
The results indicated that despite the introduction of NAADs, most farmers at the grassroots has not significantly improved on their local chicken production. Insignificant benefit from local chickens as a results of NAADs has been registered. Among the weaknesses of NAADs included delayed financial remittances, limited extension workers and poor farmer sensitization. Basing on the findings therefore it was suggested that NAADs need to be streamlined in order for it to be effective and hence contribute towards poverty reduction in Tororo District in particular and Uganda at large.
